May did seem to fly by in a daze! We were so busy, yet we had lots of fun to just enjoy the developments of the kiddos! They are both at such different stages right now, but they get along so nicely and are the apples of each others' eyes - and of Mommy and Daddy's too!

Carter's kindergarten music program was great! With the zoo theme, the kids sang, played instruments, and danced their way into the hearts of the audience! While Daddy got some shots from the audience, Mommy hung out behind the curtain (where the teachers' designated spot is for these shows). So, we really got to see it from all angles - and it looked and sounded GREAT!

Carter had a xylophone part and he proved that Daddy is not the only musical talent in the Hanson household!

It's recycle art day at the library! Using recycled materials, the kids made a shaker and a library book bag! We love living across the street from the library!

The Mystery Camp In - The Science Museum in St. Paul offers wonderful children's classes all year. Through 2 families who actually have kids in my class this year and who we've become friends with, we heard of this family event there. An ancient artifact had mysteriously gone missing after a meeting and the museum needed our help to discover who took it. We arrived on Saturday late afternoon, spent some time simply exploring the museum, and then ate a pizza dinner before the crime scene started.

We went through 4 stations to solve the crime of who took the artifact. We tested shoes taken into evidence from the 4 suspects against the footprints at the crime scene, learned how to take fingerprint samples and compared those to the scene, analyzed fibers from clothing under the microscope and through burning it, and did a litmus test to compare pens used by the suspects with the ransom note. All this data helped us to learn who "took" the artifact!

After a midnight snack and a movie in the IMAX, it was off to bed. And, YES, we did camp in at the museum. They opened up the doors to the 3rd floor and let us loose to find a spot to set up! We stayed in this little pendulum hut on our 2 sleeping bags for cushioning (as there were no blow up beds allowed - really roughing it). It was cozy and lots of fun! After a breakfast in the AM, we were off to enjoy Mother's Day Sunday! What a great time!

It was a very happy Mother's Day! Not only did I get to spend it with my 2 favorite kiddos, I also was able to share in the day with my mom! After a motorcycle ride (wearing my new Victory jacket that is the female version of Billy's and a gift for Mother's Day) with Billy, we all (sans Billy as he had to work) enjoyed yummy chips and salsa at Don Pablos - a fav restaurant of me and my mom. Then, my mom and I went to see a play at the high school - Steel Magnolias. I love spending those kind of afternoons just hanging out together. (And, I was spoiled and loved my gifts as well - the jacket, a pink-cased iPhone all set up and ready to go, and a mother's necklace with Carter and Amelia embossed on two charms!) Yes, Mommy is wearing the same clothes as in the camp in portion of the post above because the camp in ended on Mother's Day morning and this was right when we got home. She did change after that though!

The school science fair is coming up and Carter is thrilled to enter. He decided upon the Solar System, and the two of us researched a fact about each planet as well as found a clip art picture for each. Then, we made a page for each planet with the name, picture, and fact. Carter had fun choosing the font for each page and changing the colors. And, he did ALL the typing and "brave spelling". It was an academic work of art! Then, Daddy was up for the model construction phase of the project. Here they are with paint galore and different sized wooden spheres.

After mounting each planet page on colored fade-free paper and laminating them (yup - I'm a Type A freak and I hope to pass it along to my kids), Amelia needed to help rearrange them.

Here's the completed model - including the 200 gem stickers creating the starry night sky (all placed by Cart himself)!

And...the entire project! Although the 2nd place finish award was exciting, what was even more exciting was the awesome family time that we ALL spent creating it and the sense of pride and accomplishment on our little guy's face. We're so proud of you, bud!
