A Toddler's Life for Me...

A couple of very "toddler-like" things have happened lately that have left Mommy feeling like each and every ounce of "baby" is too-quickly slipping away...Trains have a very special place in the hearts of the Hanson family.  Mommy's Papa (aka "Big Papa") was a train engineer, and both Mommy and Nana remember growing up with the train tracks nearby and trains being a constant fixture in their lives.  Mommy was even able to check out a train that Big Papa drove when she was very little.  And, Big Papa would have layovers right across the highway from Nana and Papa's house when he was still driving the train and would sometimes leave the train to head over for a quick visit while he waited.  Even if he didn't stop, Mommy remembers the special honk that Big Papa let out of his train as he went by.  Even now, the train track is still operational right across from Nana and Papa's house and Big Papa always makes note of the direction as the trains go by.

Well, Amelia isn't nearly the sound sleeper that the other Hanson 3 are and has woken up TERRIFIED by the train each time it goes by when we've stayed at Nana and Papa's recently. So, we've been spending a lot of time reassuring her about trains, watching them, and noticing how they go bye-bye.

Yesterday, Amelia put two words together to make a phrase all on her own - for the very first time.  She heard a faint train whistle (which happens only in a blue moon at the ancient and small train track that is 8 or so blocks away) and all on her own, pointed out the window and said "choo choo bye bye"!  TOO CUTE!
Mommy and Daddy had date night at the movies, and Nana started to run the water for Amelia's bath (which she absolutely LOVES), shutting the bathroom door behind her.  Since the door didn't quite latch, Amelia helped herself into the bathroom, and Carter (being the amazing and responsible big brother that he is) immediately reported that Amelia went into the bathroom.  Just as Nana immediately went into the bathroom to retrieve her, Amelia had already climbed into the tub and was so proudly sitting down, fully clothed and ready to play!
