Sing...Sing a Song

In the hopes to get all of Amelia's musical aspirations BEFORE the show starts, we hung out in Mommy's classroom until the last minute before the show started.
"We Sing, Dance, and Play" was the theme of the 1st grade music program this year. And, yes...the old Sesame favorite from long ago was part of the show. Mommy couldn't help but tear up at the "Sing, sing a song. Sing out loud. Sing out strong. La la la la la. La la la la la la. La la la la la la la." part!

Carter had a "speaking part" in the show! He had a blurb to introduce the next song that the group would sing - "Miss Mary Mack". After rehearsing his line, he rocked it into the microphone like a pro!

Carter, you and your friends sure did captivate the audience! It was an awesome show! We have a wonderful music specialist at our school and Carter proves that the musical talent does not stop with Daddy in the Hanson family!

A Sad Saturday of Family Fun

All 4 Hansons are going to be around for the day, so we planned what we thought would be an exciting day of family fun and bonding! We started with morning snuggle and lounging time!
Does life get much better than hanging out in only your diaper in an empty toy bucket?
After picking Carter up from his birthday party, it was time to start the family fun. We got the ball rolling with a trip over to Woodbury - our old stomping grounds - and an early dinner at The Green Mill that is owned by Billy's company. FUN for Mommy and Daddy because the discount is 50% off! Next, off to PetLand where they have the typical pet store animals PLUS puppies. We used to take Carter here to see and play with the puppies all the time when we lived over here.
Carter picked out tonight's puppy playmate.
Amelia loved the puppy...too much so. She thought it a good idea to pick him up right from his neck!
It was love at first sight...for both Carter and the puppy. He would leave Carter's lap (which was his safety zone from the wrath of Amelia) only to fetch his little toy and would then snuggle back up with Carter once again.
The tears from Hanson child #1 came when it was time to go and the puppy had to go back. Carter SO badly wanted to take the puppy home and even volunteered to make a withdrawl from his college account in order to pay for him. We do foresee a puppy in our future (especially one like this who we learned is great with kids and does not shed) Carter...but not when we're planning on putting our house on the market this spring, moving this summer, and potty training our toddler. Soon, buddy, we promise!
Our next stop...the discount movie theatre to see Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 (for the second time for most, as Carter, Daddy, and Mommy saw it around Christmas time when it was first released). We thought this would be a positive experience...with Amelia's LOVE of the Chipmunks movie we have at home and the expectation that we may be the only one in the remote theatre. However...
Amelia has never seen so much popcorn in one place before. She was thrilled!
So, we're ready to go. Unfortunately, the small theatre was quite full with other patrons. Amelia was fascinated with the big screen and interested in sitting to eat popcorn for about the first half of the movie. However, she then thought that the theatre was just like a home, where she can wander near the screen and talk incessantly. After chasing her up and down the stairs and "shhh-ing" repeatedly and receiving dirty glares from Daddy, it was time for Mommy to take her out. We tried coming back in on a couple of different occasions, but to no avail. So, while Carter and Daddy enjoyed the remainder of the movie, Mommy sat with her back against the door so that Amelia couldn't open it while she screamed "MY CHIPMUNKS PPPPLLLLEEEEEEEASE" over and over and over. Hence, tears from Hanson child #2 on our day of family fun.

Can it still be called a family fun day when both kids become hysterical at given points during the day? Well, we still had a great time together!

We HEART Grandpa and Big Papa

Our school participated in Jump Rope for Heart last week. Carter jumped rope (and alternated it with brief rests and stints of hula hooping) for 1 whole hour to raise money for the American Heart Association. On the enrollment form, the kids had the option to jump for someone. Carter is proud to participate in MEMORY of GRANDPA HANSON and in HONOR of BIG PAPA, both directly impacted by heart disease. Carter, you have such a good, big, and sweet HEART.

All You Need is LOVE

Happy Valentine's Day! We're sending lots of love from the Hansons to you!

What a "lovely" long weekend we had together! Mommy and Daddy LOVE you two more than you will ever know!

We're Gonna Win Twins!

Look out TwinsFest, here come the Hanson boys! Billy and Carter spent Friday evening and Papa and Carter spent all day Saturday at this fun-packed and people-packed event hosted for, what may be the last time, at the Metrodome! He looks like a natural addition to the Twins line up if I've ever seen one!
Carter rocked the batting cage!
And he hit a triple during the kids' game!
What an exciting couple of days! Carter got to touch the "blue baggie" in the outfield, run the bases at the Metrodome, sneak into the Vikings locker room, get a close look at the World Series trophies, and meet some players. Brian Duensing, Joe Nathan, and Michael Cuddyer signed the pictures of Carter with them that we took last summer when we met them at Majors. He also got to see Cory Koski, Jason Kubal, Rod Carew, Al Newman, and Tony Oliva.

Skol Vikings!

One more game to go and the Vikings are SuperBowl-bound! It's a wonderful day in Minnesota! When Mommy was pregnant with Carter and we selected his name, we found this jersey on a clearance rack. It made it's rounds through Carter (and, in fact, completely wore off the Vikings logo on the front) and it's now been passed down to Amelia! We like to tell Carter that we chose his name because of one of Daddy's favorite Vikings players and one of Mommy's favorite ER characters.
Getting ready for the game with a Vikings-style lunch - yellow and purple dishes, grapes, purple milk, a grape jelly sandwich, scrambled eggs.
You two are the cutest Vikings fans ever!
Please come back next year Favre...please, please, PLLLLEEEEAAASSSSEEE!
So, now that the season is SADLY (and quite unjustly...but that's another blogging endeavor) over, we're proud to say that we'll be Vikings fans through and through! Can't wait for August to start the frenzy all over again! Thanks Albrechts for hosting us for the big game! It was FAR more fun to watch with you!

A Sleddy Saturday

New snow + a temperature of nearly 30 = the perfect day to go sledding! Carter chose to go to the hill near school and Amelia was thrilled with her first sledding adventure!
This is what happens when someone over the age of 30 attempts to go over the jump created on the hill.
Oh Carter...what a peppy guy you are! Up and down and up and down the hill with such energy!
That's the life Amelia...sledding down and having someone drag you back up!

And, when we're back in the warmth, what better to do than play games on the iPod...
...and a game of animal BINGO? We love spending weekends with you Nana and Papa!

Can You Tell Us How to Get...

...how to get to Sesame Street? It's been a few years since Carter was into it, but we brought Amelia to her first Sesame Street Live performance! She was priceless! As the characters came and went from the stage, she made sure to shout a "hi" and "bye" to each of them. I think that she honestly thought that they were there to personally see and perform for her. She was in her glory!
You know it's a successful performance when a 22-month old sits perfectly still in her seat for nearly 2 hours!
Gone are the lullaby CDs that Amelia listens to during nap and bedtime. They are now replaced with "my Elmo PLLLLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEE" CD from the show!
Until next year...
We're gonna win TWINS...incredible view of the new stadium from the walkway between the Target Center and the parking ramp. The boys are SO excited!
Tickets are pretty spendy these days. Amelia had to earn her keep one way or another...
...on her hands and knees and bottom scrubbing the floor with baby wipes! Just teasing, Amelia! We didn't make you do this. You thought it was lots of fun!

The Winter Break Luxury

How fortunate we are to have jobs that allow us time at home with the kids! Daddy was able to take some vacation around our school winter break. It's SO nice to have some quiet time together after the Christmas hullabaloo!Welcome 2010!
Ok...be honest...how many games of Monopoly have you actually finished? This was the first time that Mommy, Daddy, and Papa actually finished an entire game - as the instructions specify. And, here sits the winner...who eventually ended up with everyone's property and money. Who would've thought that in 4 hours, we would all get schooled by a 7 year old!
Amelia lost interest in Monopoly after 4 minutes and found it much more entertaining to try to crawl in and out of her baby doll crib. And, yes, she was supervised during our 4-hour Monopoly endeavor. Nana volunteered to sit this one out and keep Amelia occupied. We'll take bets on who will draw the lucky straw for that job the next time the Monopoly board comes out!
It's SO much fun being so close to the Minnesota Zoo. We like to visit the indoor trails during the winter and take part in the outdoor trails during those 3 other months of the year. Here the kids are going through the bear maze cave.
We spend the bulk of our indoor zoo time at the aquarium. There is something so peaceful about watching fish.
We're Viking fans - through thick OR thin!
We watched lots of movies! And, what would movie night be without popcorn?
We colored lots of pictures! Coloring, reading, playing ball, and watching movies are the 4 main things our nearly 6-years-apart-in-age kiddos share an interest in. Although, both are very good at nosing their way in to and annoying each other (I mean, showing a genuine interest in) with each other's individual interests as well.
It's great to kick back, relax, and snuggle up with each other!
